The Stuart Successions Project was conceived as an interdisciplinary venture. One of the project’s aims is to illuminate how succession literature interacted with other aspects of early modern political and material culture. Hence, in addition to the range of sample texts made available on the website, on these pages you will find a curated selection of objects, prints, and paintings responding to moments of royal succession or succession crisis.
The items exhibited digitally here are taken from across the seventeenth century and the early eighteenth century. The locations of items have been given in captions. As with the sample texts, all the items on show here are introduced with reference to the contexts to which they respond.
